Whether you’ve been in the Direct Sales business for many years or you are a MLM newbie, success can only occur if you choose the right opportunity for you. It’s really that simple; multi-level marketing or Direct Sales works, and it works extremely well for those who have found a good fit and a sound company.
If you are familiar with the direct sales industry and you’ve made the decision that this is the home business avenue that you want to pursue, you are probably well aware of the multitude of new companies that pop up every day claiming to be the next big, “ground floor” opportunity that you just can’t miss. And then, less than a year or two later they disappear into nothingness.
The cool thing about the Internet is that you can keep an eye on these new businesses and do your research. Doing the required groundwork on a direct sales company isn’t a 5 minute thing; you need to be certain you will be building your business with the right company. The multi-level model has been around for years, and it does work, but only if the business is run in the correct way and only if you are provided the proper training to be successful.
Be careful in your research that you don’t just take the random advice of people who have been in the business but failed or gave up too soon. More than likely they will not be able to give you an objective view of the company because of their particular experience. You’ll always hear people yell “pyramid scheme.” If this were true, this business model would not still be around creating more multi-millionaires than any other business model today. Don’t let someone else’s failures keep you from being successful. This is a rapidly changing market-place and you have to be assured that the company you select won’t vanish unexpectedly; you have got to gauge the company, its training, its track record and its products, which should comprise of merchandise that people will always need. Think “Consumables” or something very unique to the industry.
Dozens of New Direct Sales Programs Come and Go
As I stated earlier, lots of new network marketing programs come into the world each month, so you have to choose carefully. Use the internet, and look for success stories not bashers. You always want to come from a positive perspective, remember negative people are the ones that never succeed in much of anything. Now, I’m not saying to be gullible, just use common sense. When you have whittled your choice down to 1 or 2 companies, it’s a good idea to keep a close watch on the companies’ websites and also monitor what people are saying about it on blogs and forums.
Find out how these companies are advertising, are they using print advertisements, TV advertising, online Net advertising, or promoting through e-mail marketing? Clearly, the more the company spends on advertising the better it is for you. But be aware that many firms spend far too much of their initial budget on advertising, and as a result fail to stay in the game. Blog comments may also be misleading. You’ll always get people whining and griping on blogs, often because they can’t make any money and you should understand why. Always take a bit of time to pose questions on blogs, dig a bit deeper and you’ll find that their business is secondary to whining and griping on blogs!
If you are new to Direct Sales, keep an eye out for these pitfalls
When you have made your choice, you’re going to need some help and that is another minefield to be aware of. There’s a ton of shady characters online trying to earn income from you, selling all of their “secrets” and “latest” techniques for earning money in the mlm industry. Be careful, though there are good ones out there, you still have to do your homework to the ones that actually work and are worth your time and money.
If you’re not a risk taker like most people, find a company that has been successfully in the industry for no less than 5 years. Avoid brand-new direct sales companies, unless you really believe from your research that it can stand the test of time. New companies often promise huge wealth but don’t deliver. The truth is, hundreds of mlm’s fail within their first three years. So that would imply that you would fail too; everything you’ve built goes right down the pooper.
Another thing you are going to need to take into consideration is HOW, exactly, you intent to market and plug your business. Do you have a marketing budget, time available to build a business, and the skills needed to build and promote an internet site?
How will you generate a steady stream of new leads and prospects? When you sign up to create a business through an MLM, whether it is as a party consultant in direct sales or a distributor in network marketing, it is YOUR business. You have the ability to make it as successful as any other business model. At the same time, the beauty of the this industry is that you are not alone, so if the company you’ve chosen doesn’t provide the proper support and training you need to be successful, then find another company.

If you haven’t noticed by now, I am very pro MLM/Network Marketing. I’m not anti corporation; don’t get me wrong, I believe that it has its place in the grand economic scheme of things. However, when it comes to Free Enterprise, Network Marketing is the hope of the future for the average individual who wants to take control over his or her financial life. It allows the opportunity for anyone to become a business owner and make a profit in the market, without the headache incurred by the traditional business model.
New research released by Civic Ventures, suggests that more than 12 million Americans, ages 44-70, want to start a small business, if you are one of the 12 million, the “brick and mortar” model may be monetarily out of your reach. Why not give Multi Level Marketing a try?
If you decide you would like to get involved in a quality MLM , let me share with you what actions you should take before you sign on the dotted line.
Investigate the company
If you’ve never heard of multi level/ network marketing, go online and do your research. There is a wealth of information out there. MLM.com and Npros.com are good places to start. Does the company have a stable track record? How does it do business? Is it on ethical grounds? Identify if the company’s values match up with your own.
Find a well established company
You’re looking for an experienced company that has been in the business for at least 3 to 5 years, more than that is even better. You want a company that has surpassed the initial survival phase and is now in the growth stage, in order to increase your chances of being successful. Steer clear of the fly- by- night MLM if you’re looking for a long lasting business.
Select a member of the Better Business Bureau
It is always a good idea to join a company that is a member of the business bureau or registered with the Direct Selling Association. This not only ensures the company’s reliability, but also gives you a place to voice any complaints you may have regarding the conduct of the company.
Investigate the Product
Along with Identifying the MLM company is sound, it is also important to know about the products the company has to offer. Remember, your success in the network marketing arena ultimately depends on the sales of the product you are offering. Is the product marketable? Do you yourself like the product? This is especially important, if you don’t like what you’re selling how can you or why would you encourage someone else to buy. Don’t make things hard for yourself. If you like the product, it will be that much easier for you to market it.
Is it reasonably priced? Is the product a consumable? In order to generate residual income, you want to select a product that needs to be replenished on a regular basis. This increases the chances of repeat sales and ultimately passive income.
Investigate the Compensation Plan
Its important to understand a company’s compensation policies before jumping in. You’ll want to find out if the compensation is based on sales or recruits? Remember, it’s considered illegal practice if a company pays commission on the number of recruits, and if there is no useful product, RUN! MLM compensation plans should be based on product volume first, and of course the bigger the team you develop the more volume you can push.
Find out what the initial start of fee is required to become an independent owner. If the investment is relatively high, over $500, be careful as some fraudulent companies will ask you to pay huge sums of money upfront. Run from them as well.
Investigate their Training Program
A good company will provide training for new mlm marketers. This is a must. The more training they can provide the better the chances you have to be successful. The last thing you want is to connect with a company with high hopes, only to be left to figure it out all on your own. The one thing I love about Network Marketing is that everyone involved has a vested interest in your success. If you find that NOT to be the case in a company, turn the other way.
Investigate your Potential Sponsor
So you find the company you would like to join, you’ve done all the investigative work and you’re ready to get started. Please, Please, Please make sure you don’t just sign up with the first person you find that is involved in your desired business opportunity!
Make sure this person is well informed about the corporation, its product, and it’s compensation plan, at least. Go to meetings with your potential sponsor to make sure that you feel comfortable with the group. More than likely you will be showing the plan to others and inviting them to this same group of people, and if you have any doubts or are less than inspired, chances are the people you share the business with will be less than thrilled as well.
Remember, this will be your up-line for the duration of you business. You are always advised to consult with your upline in the beginning of your venture if you have any questions or issues. If this person is not completely competent, you’re gonna have problems. Yes, you are in business for yourself, but you’re not suppose to be alone. Network Marketing is about helping people achieve their success. So be choosy when choosing.
To sum it all up, a quality company comprises of people who are committed to products that actually help make people’s lives better, which see their distributors as their assets, and have a promising compensation plan that pays well in return for efforts.
If you follow these guide lines it will help make this process easier and you will be more than able to make an informed choice when prospecting a new mlm.

The term MLM is the abbreviation for Multi-Level Marketing, which is a marketing strategy that implies creating a hierarchy of various levels of compensation. Also known by the names of referral marketing or network marketing, this is a system by which the generated sales are compensated by all those who are involved in the business, no matter their hierarchic level. Unlike the corporate structure, multi-level marketing provides a level playing field where everyone involved has the opportunity to have the kind of financial success as the CEO of the traditional business model.
This type of marketing offers the ability for the average person to sell products to consumers in a more direct way, by approaching people personally to market merchandise. Because of this manner of selling, the strategy has often been referred to as “direct selling”, though there are also many other types of direct selling.
MLM was developed in 1945, when a company decided to allow its distributors (after they reached a certain number of customers) to recruit other people to their team and draw a percentage of the commissions from their sales as well.
In specialized literature, the term “multi-level marketing” is considered more appropriate for describing the characteristics of the compensation plan, while terms like “network marketing” and “direct selling” describe the distribution system. Also, in order to clearly distinguish the method from others that are considered illegal (such as pyramid schemes), various terms have been created that are used as synonyms, like “relationship marketing”, “word-of-mouth marketing” and “interactive distribution”, all of them expressing the way in which the product reaches the consumer.
MLM uses distributors that do not have a fixed salary. Their job is to sell the products by presenting them directly to the customers, and, depending on the amount they manage to sell, they are given a percentage or bonus from those sales.
These distributors can either build their own customer base and/or recruit other business owner hopefuls who also build a customer bases and assemble their own teams – this is how the hierarchy is formed and the business is expanded bit by bit.
Multi level marketing is a well developed system, and a distributor’s income depends only on how many customers he can acquire to purchase the products he sells. At first, this is a perfect way to make a little extra money on a part-time basis. Since most of the people who engage themselves in a MLM business have as main customers their relatives and/or friends at first, the amount they make from selling the products is minimal, but it is something.
Later on, when they gain more experience and knowledge, most distributors manage to put together a large and solid customer base, and, most importantly, start building their own distributor networks, which will soon allow them to gain money without having to invest too much time and effort into the business. This is when they start earning residual income and their money starts working for them instead of them working for money. In such situations, the income is substantially higher and allows them to comfortably live off their multi-level marketing business alone. This business model has allowed countless everyday people the ability to quit their “day job” and become financially independent.
If you are willing to put in the work, because contrary to popular belief, this is not a “get-rich-quick” scheme, and have or are willing to develop the skills necessary to grow your business, joining the right MLM can be your surest way to success.
Little Black Book of Scripts- Tells you exactly what to say
The Little Black Book of Scripts was one of my first investments produced by Mr. Todd Falcone, and let me tell you it was absolutely worth every penny! I’ll talk more about this little gem later, first let me tell you about one of my adopted mentors, Todd Falcone. For those of you who are looking into the network marketing or direct sales industry, you know it can be a challenge. Having a mentor is one of the most important strategies you need to incorporate if you really want to be successful. Todd Falcone has been in the Network Marketing industry for over 20 years. Way before the internet became a valuable tool for marketers, Todd was in the trenches learning and mastering the art of prospecting. Because of that early training and off line recruiting experience, he has become one of the Top multi level marketers, and prospecting experts in the field today.
Todd Falcone- MLSP
I was introduced to Todd Falcone through a series of weekly webinar training sessions within a training company that I am currently involved in called My Lead System Pro or MLSP. I can say that I was completely blown away by his knowledge and expertise in the art of recruiting and not to mention his dynamic delivery commanded my attention. I love the concept of Network Marketing. Todd Falcone is one of the reasons why. Here is a highly respected entrepreneur, a 7 figure income earner in his business, who could retire now if he wanted to, but loves the industry enough that he is dedicated to teaching other newbie’s and “guru’s” alike how to become and maintain success in the multi level marketing arena. Paying it forward, giving back to the industry that made him, that’s what network marketing is all about and I’m proud to be apart of it!
Todd Falcone- Little black book of scrips
So right after his training I quickly bought his book, Little Black Book of Scripts. The book explains the importance of knowing what to say and exactly how to say it when you are prospecting or qualifying people who you would like to be apart of your team. There are a lot of companies out there that don’t really get into the particulars of how to find leads other than your friends and family, let alone explain what exactly to say. They don’t give a complete blueprint of how to approach, qualify, and close the prospect. Little Black Book of Scripts goes into specific detail of all of this, and it provides you with a script of exactly what to say to boot!…. Nice!… This was something I really needed when I was starting out and is the best tool in the world to give to a new member of your team. Also, he provides a companion CD with the book so that you can hear how the scripts should sound like. The ultimate goal is for the new marketer to memorize the scripts so well that it sounds natural and eventually is no longer needed because it becomes apart of your own flow. I was so excited about his book that I researched to find out if he offered an affiliate program… he did. At that time I was only working with one other affiliate, but my very first return came from The Little Black Book of Scripts. Why? Because the book wasn’t hype. It provides usable value to the one who implements it. Sweet! Oh how I love this business!
If you have no idea what to say to a prospect or how to say it, let Todd tell you exactly what to say and how to say it!
You’ve gotta little black book of scripts out, believe me when I say, you will be so glad you did.
Without a good MLM lead generation plan, you’re not very likely to get far in network marketing. If hanging around malls passing out fliers or talking to the strangers 3 feet away from you at the gas station is the only way you’ve been taught to find leads….you might just give up before you ever get started.
So the question is; how do you do it, how do you find people who are interested in your business opportunity and what qualifies as a good plan? The answers are varied and widely depend on personal preferences. There are basically two ways of getting leads: get them yourself, or find and use a lead generation systems that can get you targeted leads on a consistent basis.
MLM Lead Generation Systems
Let’s start with the latter category. You’ll findmany companies specializing in lead generation and they are normally online based, meaning they incorporate online marketing strategies in marketing format. The obvious advantage to using this type of platform is that it can saves you an enormous amount of time and frustration that often comes with trying to build your down line.
On the other hand, some MLM lead generation companies have the habit of sending you leads that have nothing to do with your target market or even worse, advise you to buy their leads which is never a good idea. If you’re going to use a MLM lead generation marketing system for your business you need to make sure they offer the following services:
- Online marketing tools that are plug in play, i.e., easy to use and understand
- Training and support
- Offer online and offline strategies
- An Attraction Marketing platform for targeted leads
- Affiliate products so you can increase your income stream while you’re prospecting.
- An irresistible offer you can present to your prospects even if they say no to your biz op.
The majority of MLM lead generation companies teach new distributors to go out and find leads completely offline. This do-it-yourself method has been working for over 50 years and is still an effective technique that everyone should learn. However, many people find it difficult and uncomfortable to pitch to their family and friends let alone a stranger in a mall or at the gas station.
So, if I’m more of an introvert, should I forget network marketing all together? If I’m afraid to approach people and sell, does that mean I have to give up on my dreams of owning my own business? I say, of course not! Anyone can be successful in network marketing! There are countless 6-7 figure a month earners out there who are just as introverted. They pushed passed their personality and found a way to make it work. The important thing is to have as many marketing strategies available to you so that you can find the one that’s right for you. MLM lead generation companies that take advantage of online marketing strategies offer the best platform for success.
I personally was not the most talkative person in the world under certain situations and had a lot of trouble approaching my warm market. This is why I chose an MLM lead generation platform that taught me how to attract leads to me instead of me chasing them. Now I still had to talk to people, but it’s much easier when you know that person has been qualified and is already interested in some type of MLM opportunity.
Right now, there are quite a few good MLM lead generation systems out there on the net, each having their own dedicated fan base. Before you decide which one to join – if you want to, that is – you should thoroughly research them and their history, use the check list above as your guideline. If you are eager to start and, at the same time, want to learn how to generate your own leads, I have some free training that will help you in your online and offline marketing efforts.
MLM lead generation can be a daunting task but it doesn’t have to be. The beauty of having a TURNKEY system available is that it can do the hard work for you; the marketing strategies, the capture pages, the auto responders, and the affiliate sales funnels.
Everything you need for mlm lead generation so you can explode your business by building a successful down line.
Network Marketing Businesses| Opinions Divided
Opinions are divided when it comes to network marketing businesses, with some saying they are viable and others calling them frauds. It’s true that in the past there have been cases in which scams have been discovered, but, let’s be real here: frauds occur in every business segment. Wherever there are people with dishonest intentions, others will suffer; history is filled with stories of bank and insurance frauds.
Also, have these people claiming that network marketing businesses are all scams ever asked themselves why they are allowed to function and why they have such a powerful presence around the world? The answer to that question is simple: this is a perfectly safe and highly profitable business model that has already been approved by the FTC provided certain principles and rules are followed.
Of course, I’m not saying you shouldn’t be on the lookout for scams, (which stands true for any kind of business field) anyone can take a viable business model and turn into something illegal. Normally, if something seems too good to be true, there is something behind it that is not quite right.
So let’s be clear here, network marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You will not make millions overnight, not even hundreds of thousands. What network marketing is, is a business platform that enables the active, (notice I said active) participant to earn income with the opportunity of acquiring financial independence, but not right off the bat. Network marketing requires a little patience and hard work, especially at in the beginning.
There are those who think network marketing is the same thing as a pyramid scheme. They are wrong. First, there is no such thing as a LEGAL pyramid scheme, so if an mlm company has been successfully operating for over 50 years, then the government has some “splaining” to do! A pyramid basically works on the principle of those at the bottom losing money so that the ones on top can make money and there usually is no valuable product involved. In the network marketing industry, each person has the potential of turning a profit based on his or her skills, understanding of the business, determination and efforts. For years now, network marketing has been making people around the world forget about their financial woes, and now it is an integrated component of the world’s economy.
“Network marketing businesses puts emphasis on training 100 people so that the trainer gets 1 percent of their efforts, instead of gaining 100 percent of 1 persons’ effort”– J. Paul Getty who by the way, made a fortune with network marketing. Like him, there are many others, thus proving that this system works amazingly well IF- and that’s a big ol’ fat IF, you know what you are doing and are willing to put in the time and effort.
Making money this way must also be done in an ethical and organized manner. Building your business making false claims may bring some results on the short term, but, in the long run, it is disastrous to the mlm industry, creates distrust and just makes it harder for honest people to make a profit. Economics 101: when no one buys, the seller suffers.
Are Network Marketing Businesses Scams?
Ummm,No! Network marketing businesses are not scams, are not illegal and are not pyramids. They are business model like any other, just one that is more advantageous compared to traditional enterprises. And like any other legitimate business, money will not miraculously start to flow your way just by clicking your heels three times.
It takes training, patience, planning and effort to be successful in any and all network marketing businesses.
